News reviewed and analyzed by black community analysts

Author

At a time when diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, and communities still struggles to be fully reflected in the media landscape and public debate, the need for Québec-based initiatives that break away from homogeneity is increasingly evident. Among those making a tangible contribution to change, the event Déjà-Vu, recommended by our editorial team, stands out as a must-attend gathering. Organized by the BiAS Foundation in collaboration with entrepreneur and television columnist Déborah Cherenfant, the event will take place on February 28 at the BAnQ Auditorium (Grande Bibliothèque) in Montréal, as part of Black History Month.

Now in its third edition, Déjà-Vu “is a retrospective of current events that offers a counter-narrative rereading of local and international news stories that marked the year, through the lens of columnists and analysts from Black communities,” explains Déborah Cherenfant to Culturemania. “The event is designed as an exercise in de-chronology, where the news is revisited not only for what it was, but for what it continues to mean.”

Last year, around fifteen analysts commented on current events in economics, international relations, politics and society, as well as culture and sports. Details regarding participants for this year’s edition will be announced shortly. Registration is already open at the following link: link.
