Apple Partners with Google to Catch Up in AI

Author

Apple has officially announced a strategic partnership with Google to use Gemini AI technology in the overhaul of its voice assistant Siri, marking a major turning point in its AI strategy.

After years of delays and criticism over Siri’s limited capabilities, Apple acknowledged that its internal tools were not enough to compete with rival assistants already powered by advanced models. The chosen solution is to integrate Google’s Gemini models, considered more powerful, at the core of future versions of Siri and the full suite of Apple Intelligence features expected in 2026.

The multi-year deal is expected to allow Apple to leverage Google’s generative AI technology to deliver a more contextual voice assistant capable of handling complex queries, summarizing content, and planning actions more smoothly. This highly anticipated new version is slated to launch with the iOS 26.4 update in spring 2026.

Apple emphasized that, while the Gemini models will serve as the foundation, query execution and personal data protection will continue to adhere to its privacy standards, including on-device processing or via its Private Cloud Compute. This means Google will not have direct access to Siri users’ data.

This collaboration also reflects the evolution of the tech landscape, where two traditionally competing giants join forces to meet growing pressure in the field of artificial intelligence. It comes as Google, thanks to its advances in Gemini and other AI products, briefly reached a market capitalization of $4 trillion, a symbol of its market power.

In short, Apple is betting on Google to catch up in AI while promising a smarter, more personalized, and privacy-conscious Siri experience.
